3 tips for finding the right personal trainer

With more and more personal trainers in Tonbridge and the surrounding areas, how do you find the right one for you?  A Jackson newspaper recently printed a guide to choosing the right personal trainer, and I’d like to share three of the best tips with you.

Check experience and certifications

The Jackson County News says: “Anyone can say they’re a personal trainer, but if you want someone who is actually trained, you need to make sure he is nationally accredited.”

When looking for a personal trainer in Tonbridge, look for someone who has nationally recognised qualifications.  For example, I have recognised qualifications including REPS Level 3 Personal Trainer, REPS Level 2 Fitness Instructor and Cross Fit Level 1 coach.  I also have a range of other qualifications in weight lifting, first aid and advanced nutrition.

When looking for a personal trainer in Tonbridge, find someone with the right level of qualifications.

In addition, it’s important that you look at a personal trainer’s experience and range of specialist skills.  If you love to dance, you may be better with a personal trainer who has training in those techniques.  Research your personal trainer to make sure they offer the skills you need.

Take testimonials

The newspaper says: “Before hiring a personal trainer, ask for testimonials from current or former clients.”  This is vital if you want to be sure that a personal trainer in Tonbridge is reliable and professional.

Look for testimonials on a personal trainer’s website.  These will give you an idea of the relationship they have with previous clients and what sort of training you can expect.

Meet the trainer

The Jackson County News always recommends meeting with your personal trainer.  It says: “Make sure you immediately connect and feel comfortable with the trainer. He will see you at your weakest, and will have to push you to accomplish things you can’t do on your own. You need to trust that he has your best interests in mind, even when you don’t see progress right away.”

If you’re going to be meeting your personal trainer in Tonbridge or the surrounding area on a regular basis, you need to feel comfortable with them.  You need to build up a rapport so you feel able to question a training plan if you feel it isn’t giving you the right results.  Similarly, a personal trainer has to feel comfortable giving you motivation and feedback.

How personal trainers can help everyone from you to the leader of the free world

Over recent years, more and more people have discovered the benefits of using a personal trainer.  Having someone to help you devise a training plan, monitor your progress and to motivate you to reach your fitness goals can work wonders.

With thousands of personal trainers around the world, the range of clients personal trainers see is incredible.  I’m a personal trainer in Sevenoaks and I see a vast range of different people, all with different weight loss, body shape or fitness goals.  And, for some American personal trainers, clients can include Hollywood celebrities or, as we see next, the leader of the free world.

Variety of activities helps keep the Obamas fit

When you’re running a country, it must be tough to find time for basic things such as healthy meals and keeping yourself in shape.  However, in a question and answer session this week, the White House personal trainer, Cornell McLellan has spilled the beans about how he keeps the Obama family fit and healthy.

The Washington Post reports that McLellan read to over a hundred children at an event this week to promote a US Education Department ‘keep fit’ initiative.  The programme is designed to encourage children to by physically active during the summer holidays.

He told the children that his training plan for the Obamas includes press-ups, boxing, running, star jumps, skipping, soccer and basketball.

Whether you’re a client looking for a personal trainer in Sevenoaks or you’re one of the world’s most important families, getting the right training plan is crucial to achieving your fitness goals.  McLellan’s plan for the Obamas includes a lot of variety, which is important if you want to ensure your exercise routine doesn’t become mundane and repetitive.

Involving the family in group activities such as soccer and basketball is also a great idea, as it means you can both keep fit and spend quality time with your loved ones.  I enjoy providing personal training in Sevenoaks to groups as the participants can be competitive and motivate each other.

Keeping fit in the summer

It is easy to let your fitness or motivation lapse in the summer.  Perhaps you’re spending more time with your children or you’re heading on holiday.  Or, perhaps the warm weather is just draining your motivation?

In my opinion, the American Department of Education campaign is an important one.  Kids are often less physically active in the school holidays, and parents can also be less disciplined.  So, if you want to keep up your fitness regime this summer, why not let me devise a training plan for you?  For a personal trainer in Sevenoaks that you can trust, give me a call on (07769) 694357.
